Fred S. Hirsch Jr.

Patrolman Hirsch was the third Nassau County Police Officer killed in the line of duty. He was shot to death by Francis (Two Gun) Crowley in Merrick, N.Y. Hirsch left a family of four small children and a wife. He was 31 years old. Cromley was sent to the electric chair on January 1, 1932. Hirsch's son Fernand also became an officer of the N.C.P.D. retiring as a Sergeant on March 26,1970. A grandson, Joseph Hirsch, was appointed to the N.C.P.D. on June 25, 1969, and was assigned to the Second Precinct. Patrolman Fred Hirsch was awarded the Calderone Medal posthumously September 10th, 1932.
