First Precinct Officers Honored for Response to Active Shooter in Roosevelt

Sep 24, 2019

September 2019 Legislative Top Cops

On August 27th 2019, Police Officers Christopher White, Matthew Timpanaro, Andrew Mirenda, and James Higgins responded to call for an Active Shooter at Roosevelt Middle School on Clinton Ave in Roosevelt.  Officers quickly responded to the school, knowing the potential for multiple casualties in active shooter situations and arrived at the school within 2 minutes.  Upon arrival, officers were met by several frantic school employees who stated that a male subject had fired several shots at school employees on school property. After firing his weapon at school employees, the subject then fled the scene on foot and ran into a house located at 48 Bauer Ave, which is located next door to the school.

Officers White, Timpanaro, Higgins and Mirenda then evacuated the immediate area, created a perimeter around 48 Bauer Ave, and requested that BSO to respond to the scene.  Officers held the perimeter at gunpoint until BSO arrived approximately 15 minutes later.  BSO then extracted the subject from the house and placed the subject in custody.  BSO recovered a semi-automatic handgun at the scene.

Due to the Officers' quick response, teamwork, and bravery, they were able to secure the scene and assist in taking this dangerous subject into custody.  This is why we are proud to name them Legislative Top Cops for August of 2019.
