First Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Freeport man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 2:25 a.m. in Roosevelt.
According to Detectives, officers while on routine patrol, observed the defendant, operating a gray 2013 Chevrolet Impala, southbound on Nassau Road in Roosevelt. A Vehicle and Traffic Law was initiated shortly after. During the investigation officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana and defendant was found to have a suspended license. The defendant was placed under arrest and a subsequent search was conducted of his vehicle. During the vehicle search officers discovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun, located under the front passenger seat. A green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was also recovered inside the vehicle cup holder.
Defendant has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and three Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions.
