Funeral services were held yesterday for retired Nassau County Police Officer Paul J. McCabe. McCabe, a member of the Nassau Police Emergency Service Unit, died Friday from an illness related to the 9/11 attacks.

A funeral Mass was held for the 72-year-old at the St. Margaret of Scotland Church in Selden.

"Police Officer McCabe was one of the finest," said Acting Nassau Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter. "He had the respect of the members that he's worked with, he spent a lot of time working on 9/11 on the actual pile and during retrieval and recovery."

McCabe, a veteran of the US Army, was laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery.
