SIXTH PRECINCT
Police Officer
Sal Sedita

On May 29, 2018 at approximately 0200 HRS, while on patrol in Great Neck, Officer Sal Sedita heard a notification for an armed subject that had just menaced a victim with a handgun at a gas station in Roslyn Heights.  After hearing the subject and vehicle description via CB, Officer Sedita began canvassing on Northern Blvd in Great Neck.

During his canvass, Officer Sedita observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Northern Blvd that matched the description given during the notification. Officer Sedita initiated a vehicle stop, approached the vehicle, and asked the operator to exit the vehicle. Officer Sedita then requested additional officers at his vehicle stop.  Upon arrival of assisting officers, Officer Sedita asked the subject for permission to search the vehicle.  After receiving consent from the subject, Officer Sedita located and recovered a loaded handgun from inside the subject's vehicle.  The subject was then placed under arrest.

Officer Sedita's quick response to the notification, excellent instincts for positioning himself in a likely escape route, and excellent tactics enabled him to take a dangerous felon and gun off the street.  We are proud to name Officer Sedita as the PBA Top Cop for May 2018.
