Police Officers
Thomas Daly
Andrew Schuelein
On September 17, 2017 at approximately 1655 HRS, 1st Pct Officer Thomas Daly observed a blue BMW traveling at a high rate of speed on Baldwin Rd in Hempstead. Officer Daly activated his emergency lights and stopped the vehicle. After an investigation, Officer Daly determined the driver’s license to be suspended. Officer Andrew Schuerlein then arrived on scene. Officers detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After a search of the vehicle, Officers recovered marijuana, crack cocaine and a loaded Glock 9MM pistol.
The passenger of the vehicle then fled on foot. Officer Schuerlein gave chase and after a struggle was able to gain control and arrest the fleeing subject. The driver was arrested without incident.
The subjects were charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
Because of their keen observation and willingness to take action, Officers Daly and Schuerlein were able to take a gun off the street. This is why we are proud to name these officers our Top Cops for October 2017.
