On July 29, 2017 at approximately 0418 HRS, Officers John Anderson and Keith Johnson while working RMP 107 received a 911 call for an unknown problem at in Uniondale.
Upon arrival, officers observed a black Honda Accord driving slowly away from that address. Officers conducted a car stop and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. A disturbance then broke out and the subject then jumped back into the vehicle. Officer Johnson ordered the subject out of the vehicle and did attempt to remove the subject. The subject placed the vehicle in drive, quickly accelerated and pulled away from Officer Johnson. The car nearly ran over Officer Johnson and almost struck other responding officers, who had to jump out of the way.
Officer Anderson then discovered gun shell casings and after interviewing witnesses it was determined that the subject pointed a loaded handgun at victims and shot at the victim's vehicle. Further notifications from the 4th PCT and DMV checks helped officers and detectives obtain a possible ID and address of the subject. Officers responded to the listed address and did a canvass. Officer Johnson located the subject. The subject attempted to evade officers, but he was apprehended.
Because of their quick response, teamwork and investigational skills Officers John Anderson and Keith Johnson were able to take 2 guns off the street. This is why we are proud to name these officers our Top Cops for July 2017.
