Killed In The Line of Duty #9
Patrolman Benedict working the 0001-8000 tour of duty, was found shot through the head at the rear of Nassau Inn, South Eight Street and Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park. Patrolman Benedict apparently fell on the ice with his weapon in his hand while investigating an attempted burglary, causing the weapon to accidentally discharge. He was 53 years old.
