Killed In The Line of Duty #10

Patrolman Shaw was killed while on patrol in a Radio Patrol Car at about 3:15 a.m. in the vicinity of Railroad Avenue, Woodmere. He was on patrol with Sergeant Robert Kirk and came upon a parked automobile in an isolated area. Both officers left the patrol car and approached the parked auto when a blast of gunfire from the darkness mortally wounded Patrolman Shaw. Sergeant Kirk returned fire but failed to hit the assailant who disappeared in the darkness. The assailant has never been found. The auto had been stolen about a half mile from the spot where the shooting occurred. He was 33 years old.
